Kalleq Greenland Paddle
"Kalleq" inuit for lightning fast
"Kalleq" inuit for lightning fast
The Kalleq is made of ripstop carbon fibre with technology drawn from the demanding competitive world of bicycle racing. Gearlab have achieved a remarkably thin blade edge of 1.1mm thickness which creates an elegant efficient experience as it slices through the water. This is the latest design from the Gearlab technicians which has received inputs from Greenland Paddling ambassadors notably Maligiaq Johnsen Padilla, Helen Wilson, Amber Champion, James Manke, Stefano Vascotto, Hege Enge
The Two Piece Joint is secured with a spring loaded carbon button and a simple very effective square peg (orange element) which slots into a hidden square hole to prevent any joint movement Replaceable tips are another unique feature of Gearlab paddles. The Protek Tips are held with titanium grub screws requiring an allen key to remove. Note that inside the tip on the paddle is located a unique serial number for paddle. |
Which size
to get is tricky to answer & best to chat to people who use them and if possible borrow a Kalleq and find out which feels right for you. Obviously a longer paddle will have more blade area, more buoyancy & deliver more power & at a lower cadence than shorter paddles.

Taking apart the paddle after use
The Kalleq is made with precision and the joint is therefore a perfect close smooth fit. Wax is recommended to apply a very thin layer to the male part joint as a lubricant. The push button is a very exact fit designed to lock in place flush with the surface of the shaft. Once clicked together the square peg locks the two parts in place hence there is no movement when in use. To remove the two parts after use the button must be pushed deep inside and held down whilst at the same time a direct pull is exerted; this must be a simple direct pull as a twist will not work because of the square peg. If the button is not pushed deep enough then you will fail to pull apart the joint! If you are struggling then you may wish to recruit a friend to hold the button down. The fit is so precise that you may notice a suction noise as the vacuum is overcome once the button allows air to enter.
Make sure the two parts are free of dirt especially sand & seaweed before connecting. It is advisable to take apart the paddle after use & clean the joint with warm water. Very small particles of seaweed trapped in the joint could dry out and act like a glue.
